Do Gun Laws Work?

My answer is: sometimes.

Here’s the list of only some of the laws that Adam Lanza defied during his disgusting rampage. Will anyone read these laws? These are only a few of the laws that he broke.
This is only an example of people, with the disgusting intent of doing harm to others, will by-pass all of these laws to commit such atrocities. His state has some strict regulations but that didn’t stop him….
So, for the Newtown shooting in which Adam Lanza murdered those poor children. Apparently, in Adam Lanza's state doesn’t allow people to have “assault” weapons in the first place. Here: “”Sec. 53-202c. Possession of assault weapon prohibited. Class D felony.”” Taken from http://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/chap_943.htm#sec_53-202a

Adam Lanza also stole this weapon from his dead mother. So, he broke a law there as well. So, his mother may have legally owned the rights to the weapon, but he didn’t. That’s illegal.

Also, according the section below this one… if you are in possession of an “assault” weapon, and you legally were in possession of it (Adam Lanza was not legally in possession of one) and you purchased prior to the Federal (Clinton’s) “assault” weapons ban (State of Connecticut adopted this ban after it expired), you must show proof of this.

Read the section below:
“”Sec. 53-202d. Certificate of possession of assault weapon. Certificate of transfer of assault weapon to gun dealer. Circumstances where possession of assault weapon authorized. (a) Any person who lawfully possesses an assault weapon, as defined in section 53-202a, prior to October 1, 1993, shall apply by October 1, 1994, or, if such person is a member of the military or naval forces of this state or of the United States and is unable to apply by October 1, 1994, because he or she is or was on official duty outside of this state, shall apply within ninety days of returning to the state to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, for a certificate of possession with respect to such assault weapon. The certificate shall contain a description of the firearm that identifies it uniquely, including all identification marks, the full name, address, date of birth and thumbprint of the owner, and any other information as the department may deem appropriate. The department shall adopt regulations in accordance with the provisions of chapter 54 to establish procedures with respect to the application for and issuance of certificates of possession pursuant to this section. Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 1-210 and 1-211, the name and address of a person issued a certificate of possession shall be confidential and shall not be disclosed, except such records may be disclosed to (1) law enforcement agencies and employees of the United States Probation Office acting in the performance of their duties, and (2) the Commissioner of Mental Health and Addiction Services to carry out the provisions of subsection (c) of section 17a-500””

Adam Lanza also broke this law: “”Sec. 53-202f. Transportation of assault weapon. Authorized actions of gun dealer. (a) While transporting an assault weapon between any of the places mentioned in subdivisions (1) to (6), inclusive, of subsection (d) of section 53-202d, no person shall carry a loaded assault weapon concealed from public view or knowingly have, in any motor vehicle owned, operated or occupied by him (1) a loaded assault weapon, or (2) an unloaded assault weapon unless such weapon is kept in the trunk of such vehicle or in a case or other container which is inaccessible to the operator of or any passenger in such vehicle. Any person who violates the provisions of this subsection shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than three years or both.””

Adam Lanza also broke the law when he brought the weapons close to a school. That’s also against the law.

And this law: “”Sec. 53-203. Unlawful discharge of firearms. Any person who intentionally, negligently or carelessly discharges any firearm in such a manner as to be likely to cause bodily injury or death to persons or domestic animals, or the wanton destruction of property, shall be guilty of a class C misdemeanor.””

And this law: “”Sec. 53-205. Loaded shotguns, rifles and muzzleloaders prohibited in vehicles and snowmobiles. (a) No person shall carry or possess in any vehicle or snowmobile any shotgun, rifle or muzzleloader of any gauge or caliber while such shotgun, rifle or muzzleloader contains in the barrel, chamber or magazine any loaded shell or cartridge capable of being discharged or when such muzzleloader has a percussion cap in place or when the powder pan of a flintlock contains powder. As used in this subsection, “muzzleloader” means a rifle or shotgun that is incapable of firing a self-contained cartridge and must be loaded at the muzzle end.””
And this: “”Sec. 29-29. Information concerning criminal records of applicants for permits. (a) No temporary state permit for carrying any pistol or revolver shall be issued under the provisions of section 29-28 unless the applicant for such permit gives to the local authority, upon its request, full information concerning the applicant’s criminal record. The local authority shall require the applicant to submit to state and national criminal history records checks. The local authority shall take a full description of such applicant and make an investigation concerning the applicant’s suitability to carry any such weapons.””

And he was underage to carry, so he broke this law as well: “”Sec. 29-33. Sale, delivery or transfer of pistols and revolvers. Procedure. Penalty. (a) No person, firm or corporation shall sell, deliver or otherwise transfer any pistol or revolver to any person who is prohibited from possessing a pistol or revolver as provided in section 53a-217c.””

And this: “”Sec. 29-35. Carrying of pistol or revolver without permit prohibited. Exceptions. (a) No person shall carry any pistol or revolver upon his or her person, except when such person is within the dwelling house or place of business of such person, without a permit to carry the same issued as provided in section 29-28.”” Hence the need for a PERMIT. In order to get this permit, you must get a background check. He didn’t do that.

I will update this more later. This is only an example of criminals avoiding these laws....
